An imprecision fallacy (also an error in sampling) occurs when evidence used is not representative of the group because it is imprecise in some way.

For example, in an apex fallacy, only the cream of the crop are considered when generalizing all members of a group; clearly, the top performers are not representative of the group at large, and thus cannot be generalized.

It is an informal fallacy.
