It has become famous as allegedly Osama Bin Laden lived there for 4 or more years [2] in a compound located in an affluent area of Abbotabad where many retired Pakistani military officers live. The compoun is actually located in Bilal town, in Abbottabad district, about 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) northeast of the Abbottabad city center and 1.3 kilometers southwest of the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul.

Bin Laden was never seen coming or going. It also had walls between 3.7 and 5.5 meters (12 and 18 feet) high, which is not unusual for the area, but the presence of security cameras, barbed wire and privacy windows would have been notable. It was an exceptionally fortified compound for the area. [3]
