Jumping The Shark

Jumping the Shark is an expression used to refer to a point at which a television show moves into unusual or absurd stories that break conventions already established in the show.

The term was coined in reference to an episode of Happy Days where The Fonz literally jumps over a shark while riding water skis.

These changes usually occur in an effort to pull up ratings or to gather views from a competitor show.
