Internal Combustion Engine

An internal combustion engine is a heat engine in which the fuel is burned inside the engine itself. An example is an automobile engine where the gasoline/air mixture burns inside the engines cylinder and the expanding gases drive the piston. A steam engine is not an internal combustion engine since the fuel is burned outside the engine.
