Mark Rothko (1903 - 1970) was a Latvian-born American painter of Jewish ancestry; leader of the New York Abstract-Expressionist school of painters after World War II. He was known for painting rectangular shapes on large canvases.[1] On February 25, 1970, painter Mark Rothko was found dead in his New York City studio, after having committed suicide at age 66.[2]
