Portrait of Tracy is a famous bass solo composition by the late jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius. It appeared on his self-titled debut album in 1976. It is widely considered to be a landmark bass piece, and is often used as an exemplar of a bassist's skills. Although famous for incorporating a fast and groovy style, Jaco creates a very dreamy and relaxing atmosphere through Portrait of Tracy. The song consists almost entirely of artificial harmonics, giving it its distinctive tone, one not often found in bass compositions.
