The University of Colorado is a liberal public institution in the state of Colorado. The buffalo is the mascot of the University, which plays intercollegiate sports in the Pac-12 Conference (it was formerly a member of the Big XII Conference but chose to change affiliations as Colorado has become more liberal with many Californians having moved there).
It unsuccessfully tried to keep students with gun permits from carrying guns on campus. When that policy failed to survive legal review, it sought to segregate dorms based on which students had gun permits.[1]
