The United States Secretary of Commerce is head of the Department of Commerce and a member of the Presidential Cabinet. The current secretary, as of 2017, is Wilbur Ross, serving under Republican President Donald Trump.
Obama nominated two people to fill the position; Gov. Bill Richardson and Republican Sen. Judd Gregg. Richardson withdrew when he was caught in a Pay for play scandal. Gregg cited disputes over the 2010 census and economic stimulus plan. Locke was confirmed by the Senate on March 24, 2009.[1]
