The FTSE 100, short for the "Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 Index" but often called the "Footsie", is an aggregate of roughly the largest 100 public companies traded on the London Stock Exchange. This index represents about 80% of the entire market capitalization of the London Stock Exchange.

This is arguably the most popular stock index in the world.
