Toxic masculinity is a term used to describe the misandrist, feminist myth that masculinity is inherently sexist and misogynistic,[1][2] and encompasses behaviours such as, "manspreading"[3] and "mansplaining."[4]
According to the leftist The New York Times, the Trump administration is propagating and engaging in "toxic masculinity."[5]
The idea of toxic masculinity, which is taught in colleges and universities,[6][7][8][9] has been proven to be harmful to both males[10] and females.[11] Conservatives have argued that masculinity is not "toxic" and should be promoted.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18] Occasionally, they have been censored for even suggesting this.[19]
A feminist once even designed a chair to counteract "manspreading."[20][21][22]
While some liberals claim that the theory of "toxic masculinity" is not intended to demonize masculinity in general,[23][24][25] others contradict this claim by asserting that all masculinity is toxic.[26] In addition, some have argued that toxic masculinity does not exist, instead raising the issue of "toxic femininity,"[27][28] which is admitted to exist even by some liberals who believe in toxic masculinity.[29][30]
"Toxic masculinity" is essentially synonymous with "male privilege."[31][32]
Conservatives argue that toxic masculinity,[33] male privilege,[34] "manspreading,"[35] "mansplaining,"[36] and the "patriarchy"[37] do not exist.
Many women appreciate masculinity[38] and even enjoy certain courtesies taken toward women by men, such as opening a door for them[39] or giving them compliments.[40]
