Georgia Supreme Court Rules That Right To A Speedy Trial Was Not Violated

January 11, 2012[edit]

Georgia: This week, the Georgia Supreme Court denied the claim of Timothy Leroy Wilkie, who said that waiting six years to try him for murder was unconstitutional. Primarily, the court said that the case warranted a lengthy investigation. The court also wondered why it took the plaintiff so long to file the lawsuit, since he was arrested for the incident a second time in 2009.[1]

Wilkie is accused of killing another man with a crossbow in 2005. Following an arrest, he was released on bond and not re-arrested until 2009.[1]
