The Los Angeles Angels are a Major League Baseball team based in Anaheim, California (U.S. state), which is southeast of Los Angeles. The team was founded in 1961 as an expansion team in the American League. ^{[1] [2]}

Championships[edit]

The team has had one championship-winning season in the modern era (1901 and later) of major-league baseball, winning the World Series in 2002. This was also the only season that they were American League champions. ^[3]

Locations and Nicknames[edit]

The team has been based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area since its inception in 1961. They have played their home games at the following stadiums. ^[4]

• 1961: Wrigley Field (in Los Angeles)
• 1962-1965: Dodger Stadium (in Los Angeles. Stadium known as Chavez Ravine at the time)
• 1966-present: Angel Stadium (in Anaheim, California. Originally named Anaheim Stadium, renamed Edison International Field in 1997, renamed Angel Stadium following the 2003 season.)

Though they have always been known by the nickname "Angels" and played in the greater Los Angeles area, their named home location has changed over the years: ^[5]

• 1965-1996 California Angels (in Los Angeles 1965, and Anaheim 1965-present)
• 1997-2004 Anaheim Angels
• 2005-2015 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
• 2016-present Los Angeles Angels (playing in Anaheim)
