The Prisoner

Patrick McGoohan played Number Six in the 17-episode British television series, The Prisoner.

The Prisoner is a British television drama series starring Patrick McGoohan that ran seventeen episodes^[1] from 1967 to 1968. It was filmed in Portmeirion, Wales. It provides a disturbing view of intelligence agents and the mind control theory (see also brainwashing).

The series has been seen by some as an expose of the post-Cambridge Spy Ring culture, a discussion of 1960s counterculture, an entertaining spoof spy series and possibly as an allegory for how society forces us all to conform and how it oppresses and ultimately absorbs the differently minded.

Just as Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" can be synchronized with "The Wizard of Oz" it has been suggested that the opening sequences of The Prisoner can be synchronized with several songs from the Beatles' "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band".^[2]

Everyman Films and ITC Entertainment co-produced the series.
