Victimless Crime

In legal and political theory, a victimless crime is an act which is illegal under the law, but which is believed to not have any "victims" other than the person breaking the law.

Types of acts which are considered to be "victimless" include gambling, prostitution, and use of recreational drugs.

The Libertarian Party advocates for such laws to be removed from the statutes in their entirety. Elements within both the Republican Party and the Democrat Party also seek some modification of these laws (mainly the legalization, or at least the reclassification from felony to misdemeanor, of marijuana possession, along with the expansion of gambling).

Other groups disagree strongly with such a view, arguing that such actions have an impact on others (such as prostitution leading to the destruction of marriages, gambling and drug use leading to crime in order to support addictions, etc.)
