1. What was the "Revolution of 1800"?

The Revolution of 1800 was actually the presidential election held that year. That election was the first peaceful chance in power due to an election in history. The Democratic-Republican party, which was a group that was not in power, defeated the Federalist party, which held the power at that time. Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr, the candidates for the Democratic-Republican party, defeated Federalist candidate John Adams.

"change", not "chance". Good answer otherwise.

2. If you were the president, would you have approved the Louisiana Purchase? Explain.

The idea of Jefferson going back on his own principles may seem unattractive to the hearer, but when the benefits of what the Louisiana purchase did for the United States as a whole, it was obvious that the decision was a good one. If I had been in the position at the time, I may not have had the foresight Jefferson possessed to see the perks of the purchase, so in answer, no, I would not have approved.

Honest answer! Good work.

3. Identify a cause of the War of 1812.

One of the main causes of the War of 1812 was that the British took over American ships, causing injuries to American seamen.

Correct.

4. Describe what you like most about the Monroe Administration.

Monroe became popular with beliefs (anti-Federalism) that were rather contrary to the current ideas (Federalism).

His anti-Federalism was decades earlier. (Minus 2).

5. Explain what is meant by "Jacksonian Democracy."

Jackson became a triumph of democracy, the title one by his landslide victory in the 1828 presidential election. That triumph is referred to now as the "Jacksonian Democracy" because the upper class hated him, he being a low-class person himself, just as much as the lower and middle class loved him for the same reasons.

Excellent.

6. Explain what the Marshall Court is known for.

The Marshall Court is known for challenges of laws by the people, or certain people groups.

Nope. See model answers. (Minus 2).

7. Identify the figures in the cartoon, provide an approximate date, and describe the likely viewpoint of the cartoonist:

The date for this cartoon would probably be somewhere around 1813, because it seems to be drawn in reference to the Treaty of Ghent. John Bull stands for England, Mr. Bruin for Russia (the Czar), and Columbia for America, because she is holding an American Flag. William Charles, the cartoonist/artist, was biased towards American, and thought the English should ask US for mercy, since the Bull looks stupid. Media bias is obviously evident.

Excellent analysis. But cartoons are not "biased". They openly and candidly express a viewpoint.

H1. Jefferson seems to receive better treatment by historians than he deserves. Why?

History books tend to be bias to Jefferson, making the First Barbary War, which was a complete failure financially, into something of a victory, when all it really did was inspire the opening lyric in the hymn of the Marines - "From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli."

Right, but "why"? Be sure to answer the question. (Minus 2).

H2. Explain the impact of the War of 1812 on the Federalist Party.

The Federalist Party was effectively ended after the War of 1812, because many Federalists gathered at the Hartford Convention in 1814 drawing up plans to leave the United states, because they were friends of the English, but at the same time, the United States signed a peace treaty with England, making the Federalists look like idiotic traitors. The Federalists were never again involved in American politics.

Superb analysis. Will include in model answers.--Aschlafly 23:30, 9 October 2008 (EDT)

H4. How did the North and South feel about tariffs, and why?

The didn't want any new states to be created, because it would disturb the even numbers of the pro- and anti-slave states, giving one or the other more power.

To whom does "the" ("they") refer? How does this relate to tariffs? Answer needs to be clearer in responding to the question. (Minus 1).
Good effort. Score: 93/100.--Aschlafly 23:30, 9 October 2008 (EDT)
