Menla^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4] is a project of Tibet House US^[5], a non-profit founded by Richard Gere^[6], Robert Thurman^[7]^[8], and Philip Glass^[9], to preserve Tibetan culture.

The spa, conference center, and retreat space are located near Phoenicia, New York. The property includes over 300 acres (mainly forested) in the Catskills.^[2] It adjoins state land and is also an Audubon sanctuary and nature reserve. Given to the Tibetan people and the Dalai Lama as a gift, the Dalai Lama blessed the land when he visited in 2006.

Name[edit]

Menla is named for the Tibetan Medicine Buddha.

History[edit]

Established by Robert and Nena Thurman^[2] in 2002, the Tibetan-inspired resort and spa were created to preserve Asian healing techniques and medicinal knowledge. Dewa Spa was added in 2011. Menla hosts retreats and virtual classes that focus on mind science and mind/body awareness. In the past, part of the property was a resort and later became a spiritual center. It was previously known as The Center for the Living Force, then as the Pathwork Center.^[4]
