Disruptive Technology

From Conservapedia

A disruptive technology or disruptive innovation is a technological breakthrough that challenges the mainstream or status quo. An example would be the automobile disrupting the market for horse-and-buggy transportation, or the airplane disrupting the market for travel by ship across an ocean.

This concept is contrasted with a sustaining technology that enhances existing technology in an incremental manner.
