Windhoek

Windhoek is the capital city of Namibia. It was founded on the site of hot springs by Afrikaner settlers in the 19th century. It became the administrative centre of German South-West Africa in 1892, and retained its status when the region came under South African administration in 1919.

Its population at the 2001 census was 233,529.
