Lakehead University

Lakehead University in Ontario, Canada, was founded in 1965 with roots dating back to 1946 when Lakehead Technical Institute was established. Today Lakehead University is a comprehensive institution with close to 8,000 students in nine Faculties and more than 2,000 faculty and staff.

It offers an array of programs in professional areas such as engineering and education, arts, sciences and the west campus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Application has also been made for a Law school. The University offers a variety of degree programs at the undergraduate, Master's and Doctoral levels, as well as on-campus and community-based programs, continuing education and distributed learning. The University has a main campus with a significant Aboriginal student enrollment in Thunder Bay, Ontario located on Lake Superior. A second campus in Orillia has just unveiled its initial permanent building, which is the first official Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum university campus in Canada.
