An artistic work is, under the Copyright Act, a creative form of expression that results in a visual work. Examples include a painting, drawing, map, chart, plan, photograph, engraving, sculpture, craft or architecture.

The definition of an artistic work does not depend on its merit or perceived beauty.

All artistic works are automatically protected by copyright law.
