Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) was a German composer. He immigrated to the United States in 1935 after his music fell afoul of the Nazi regime. Besides a prolific composer of sonatas for every orchestral instrument and numerous orchestral works, including the often-played Symphonic Metamorphoses on a theme by Weber (1943), Hindemith was well known as a teacher, having taught at Yale during his stay in America, and at Zurich University from the 1948 until his death.
