The Dallas Mavericks are a National Basketball Association (NBA) team based in Dallas, Texas. They are members of the Western Conference, Southwest Division.
The Mavericks entered the league in 1980 as an expansion team.
Since 2000 the Mavericks have been owned by outspoken billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban, who has been fined by the NBA on no fewer than 13 occasions (totaling in excess of $1.6 million) for his criticisms of game officials and the league in general. He also announced in February 2021 that the team would no longer play The Star Spangled Banner before games[1], though the NBA would later state that it would be played before ALL NBA games, forcing the team to reverse its original decision.
The Mavericks have made the NBA Finals twice, losing in 2006 and winning in 2011; both appearances were against the Miami Heat.
