Augmentation

From Conservapedia

Augmentation, in reference to composing and music, relates to the technique of changing a passage of notes into longer note values (e.g. double their value, or twice as long). The opposite is called Diminution.

On wind and brass instruments, the technique can be accomplished by having the musicians on the same instrument come in a second or two after each other, thus being able to sustain a note longer than one performer is capable.
