The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) is a political party in Russia. It is one of the four major parties in the country. Its ideology is nationalism and populism. The party was originally founded as the Liberal Democratic Party of the Soviet Union in 1989[1] and renamed to Liberal Democratic Party of Russia in 1991.[2] Since its establishment, it has been headed by Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The stated political opponents of the party are the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) and the Yabloko.
