New York Jets

The New York Jets are a National Football League (NFL) team based in East Rutherford, New Jersey. They are members of the American Football Conference (AFC) East Division.

History and League Success[edit]

Founded in 1960 as an AFL charter franchise known as the Titans of New York, it changed its name to the Jets after two seasons.

After playing on Long Island, the team relocated to Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in 1984. They share the stadium with the New York Giants, which until 2020 (when the recently-relocated Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams built a new stadium for their teams) was the only stadium-sharing arrangement in the NFL.

The Jets were the first team from the AFL (at the time considered the weaker of the two professional football leagues) to win the Super Bowl, Super Bowl III (which was the first such game to actually be called "Super Bowl"; previously the game was known as "NFL-AFL Championship Game"), led in large part by their flamboyant quarterback, "Broadway" Joe Namath who "guaranteed" a win for the team. It is their only win, and only appearance, in the Super Bowl, and their only league title of any sort.
