TASS (Telegrafnoe Agentstvo Sovetskogo Soyuza, 'Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union') was the official news agency of the former Soviet Union, formed in 1918 as the Russian Telegraph Agency and renamed in 1925. Since 1992 it has been named the Information Telegraph Agency of Russia (ITAR) but brands itself ITAR-TASS.
