Physicians for Patient Protection (PPP) is a conservative grassroots organization of practicing and retired physicians, residents, and medical students. Their mission is to protect the American healthcare system by advocating for physician-led care.[1] The group began in 2016 as a grassroots social media movement and was officially incorporated as a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization in 2018.[2]
The group's president is physician and author Rebekah Bernard from Florida.[3] The group has over 12,000 members.[4] Their primary issue is addressing the encroachment of non-physicians into primary care with expanded full practice authority (FPA). Bernard has authored the book Patients at Risk with co-author and physician Niran Al-Agba to expose the dangers of elevating lesser trained healthcare practitioners.[5]
The group has publicly opposed legislation to expand full practice authority for nurse practitioners, including California Assembly Bill 890[6] and Texas House Bill 2029[7] with the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.
Amber Colville, internist from Mississippi and charter member of PPP, served as a recommended physician on President Trump's 2020 Physician Advisory Board.[8]
