From Conservapedia Proposition 16 is a voluntary rule for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) colleges that imposes the following eligibility requirement on student-athletes in Division I:
Students having lower test scores must establish higher core course GPAs. For example, a student having a GPA of 2.5 or higher need test scores of only 820 on the SAT or 68 on the ACT.
There is a modified version of these requirements for student-athletes at the 254 Division II NCAA schools.
There is a waiver mechanism, particularly for students having learning disabilities.
There have been several unsuccessful legal challenges, based on discrimination, to Proposition 16.
The NCAA has other eligibility requirements, such as some enrollment requirements. However, there are also exceptions from those requirements.[1]
