The Mughal dynasty reigned for 350 years in India. At its peak, this dynasty covered all the subcontinent except it most southern tip. Its greatest ruler was Akbar the Great, who was known for promoting religious tolerance and peace.

The dynasty fell in 1862 when the last Mughal emperor, the exiled emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar II, died.
