MONTGOMERY, Alabama:The Alabama Legislature begins on Tuesday January 12, 2010, and a proposed referendum may be introduced soon after. State Representative Marcel Black stated that he will introduce the constitutional amendment to hold a statewide referendum on slot machines and tax the gambling proceeds, according to reports.

According to Black: "Gambling is here in the state, and it is going to continue to spread. It's an untapped source of revenue for the state that needs to be looked at.” Alabama Education Association Executive Secretary Paul Hubbert stated: "It will probably be one of the biggest issues of the upcoming legislative session.”[1]
