Mascarene Islands

Mascarene Islands (occasionally Mascarenhas), the collective title of a group in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, viz. Mauritius, Reunion and Rodriguez. The collective title is derived from the Portuguese navigator Mascarenhas, by whom Reunion, at first called Mascarenhas, was discovered.
