Louisiana College

Louisiana College is a Southern Baptist-affiliated institution of higher education located in Pineville in central Louisiana. The enrollment is about 1,300. The athletic teams are the Wildcats.

Founded in 1906, LC is the successor institution to two earlier Louisiana Baptist schools, Mount Lebanon College in Bienville Parish and Keatchie Female College in De Soto Parish. The college began four professor and nineteen students occupying temporary tents. Edwin O. Ware, Sr. (1853-1933), an educator from Kentucky, is the principal founder of the institution. Ware was from 1906 to 1907 the LC financial agent and its founding president from 1908 to 1909. His namesake grandson, Edwin O. Ware, III, a 1948 LC graduate,was the district attorney for Rapides Parish from 1966 to 1984.

Since its founding, more than ten thousand have graduated from Louisiana College. Recent controversies involving two presidents, Joe Aguillard and Rick Brewer, have shaken the campus.

Billy Allgood was the long-term basketball and baseball coach at Louisiana College. Claybrook Cottingham​,the namesake of the Cottingham Expressway in Pineville, was the third LC president from 1910 to 1941.
