Boston College is a major Catholic university near Boston; it was established by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) in 1863.
There were twenty-two students enrolled, and three teachers on staff when it opened on September 5, 1864. The University was first located in the South End of Boston, but quickly out grew the space, and moved its location to Chestnut Hill where it first broke ground on June 19, 1909. It now has four campuses; Chestnut Hill, Newton, Brighton and Dover. The University is home to over 14,500 students, and 660 full-time faculties. Boston College ranked #35 in US News's 2008 "National Universities: Top Schools" list.[2]
