Guangxi (Simplified: 广隙; Traditional: 廣隙; Hanyu pinyin: Guángxī) (in full, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) is a mountainous province in south-west China. Its capital city is Nanning. It is bordered by the Chinese provinces of Guangdong, Hunan, Guizhou, and Yunnan and by Vietnam; it also has a short coastline on the South China Sea.
A relatively large percentage of the population is made up of national minorities (non- Han Chinese), which accounts for its notional 'autonomous' status.
Guangxi was the location of the outbreak of the Taiping Rebellion in 1850.
