Champagne

Champagne is a wine produced in the Champagne region of north-east France. Champagne is famous for the sparkling white wine produced using the method invented in Champagne called méthode champenoise. Champagne also produces small quantities of non-sparkling and red wines.

There is a dispute over the use of the name "Champagne". French law, and that of many other countries, only permits use of the name "Champagne" for wines produced in Champagne. in the USA and some other countries, "Champagne" is used as a generic name for any sparkling wine.

A similar sparkling wine produced in Spain is Cava and in Italy Prosecco.
