Attenuation

From Conservapedia

Attenuation is the weakening of light, sound, or any other wave or signal as that wave or signal propagates.[1] Attenuation is caused by such factors as absorption, scattering, and broadening in three dimensions.[2] Attenuation is typically expressed as a form of exponential decay, and an often used unit of attenuation is the decibel.
