The St. Lawrence River is a large river which connects the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean and is the primary drainage of the Great Lakes Basin. Starting near Kingston at the eastern end of Lake Ontario it flows 744 mi1es (1197 km) in an approximately northeast direction to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the Atlantic. The river largely flows through the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario but also forms part of the international boundary between Canada, and the U.S..
