Tigris River

The Tigris River, along with the Euphrates River, supported the development of ancient Mesopotamian culture. The area around the two rivers is known as the Fertile Crescent.

The Tigris River stretches from eastern Turkey, through Syria and Iraq, and merges with the Euphrates to form the Shatt al-Arab before flowing into the Persian Gulf.

The Bible lists the Tigris River as one of four that flowed out of the land of Eden, however young-Earth creationists believe that the current river and the Edenic river are not the same river, but that the current river was named after the Edenic river just as some rivers in Australia or America are named after rivers back in Britain.
