From Conservapedia

Father Jerzy Popieluszko (born 1947) was a Polish Catholic Priest. Fr. Popieluszko strongly opposed Communism. In the 1980s he spoke out against the Communist government which then ruled Poland. On October 19, 1984, he was abducted and battered to death by communist secret agents. A quarter million people turned out for his funeral. The secret police who murdered him got only light sentences.
