Paridae is a family of small passerine birds comprising 14 genera and 64 species commonly known as chickadees, tits, and titmice, and found throughout much of the Northern Hemisphere and Africa.
Description[edit]
They are birds that do not exceed eight inches in length, and weigh 0.18 to 1.73 ounces. The colors are variable and range from gray with a black head for American species, to brown for some European species, such as coal tit (Periparus ater) and marsh tit (Poecile palustris), to blue for great tit (Parus major) and the Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), up to the light blue-white of the azure tit (Cyanistes cyanus). Several species bear a crested head. They have a rather small and pointed beak, and short, strong legs.
