Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is an organization of grassroots leaders who engage citizens in the name of limited government and free markets on the local, state and federal levels. AFP consist of more than 1.2 million members in all fifty states. Founded by David Koch in 2004,[1] Tim Phillips is the organizations president. They are based in the Washington, D.C. area and operate 30 chapters nationwide. As citizen activists, they organize events, write letters to the editor, and petition their lawmakers to uphold freedom and prosperity. AFP has a separate entity called Americans for Prosperity Foundation that is committed to educating citizens about economic policy and a return of the federal government to its Constitutional limits. August 9, Barack Obama held a fundraiser where he demonized Americans for Prosperity.[2] Recently, AFP held their fourth Defending the American Dream summit. An AFP bus tour is heading across the country to hold elected officials accountable for their votes.
