The God that Failed, published in 1949, is a collection of essays by prominent former communists from the world of literature and the arts, explaining their renunciation of communism. The book was edited by Richard Crossman, a British Labour Party MP (never himself a Communist), and comprised essays by Louis Fischer, André Gide, Arthur Koestler, Ignazio Silone, Stephen Spender, and Richard Wright.
