Qingdao

Qingdao (Simplified: 请岛; Traditional: 請島; Hanyu pinyin: Qīngdaō) is a port city in Shandong province, China. Between 1897 and 1914 it was controlled by Germany, and it was occupied by Japan between 1914 and 1921, and again between 1938 and 1945. Qingdao was made famous by the Tsingtao Brewery, started by Germans in 1903. Among the attractions in Qingdao are its many bathing beaches, May Fourth Square, Qingdao Underwater World, Qingdao Beer Museum, Zhongshan Park, Huadong Winery, and nearby Laoshan mountain.

Qingdao hosted the sailing regatta for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
