Somerset is a county in south-west England. It is the location of Glastonbury, often equated with the Isle of Avalon. It is most famous for its cider, which is appropriate, as 'Avalon' means 'island of apples'. In 1974 a large chunk of northern Somerset was removed from the county and placed into the county of Avon, but in 1996 Avon was abolished and Somerset got its territory back.
