The American Center for Law and Justice (or ACLJ) is an legal organization dedicated to protecting religious and constitutional freedoms in the United States.

Mission[edit]

ACLJ's website provides the following mission statement:[1]
"The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) is committed to insuring the ongoing viability of constitutional freedoms. By specializing in constitutional law, the ACLJ is dedicated to the concept that freedom and democracy are God-given inalienable rights that must be protected. The ACLJ engages in litigation, provides legal services, renders advice, counsels clients, provides education, and supports attorneys who are involved in defending the religious and civil liberties of Americans. As a non-profit organization, the ACLJ does not charge for its services and is dependent upon God and the resources He provides through the time, talent, and gifts of people who share our concerns and desire to protect our religious and constitutional freedoms."

History[edit]

The ACLJ was founded in 1990 by televangelist Pat Robertson. Its current Chief Counsel is Jay Sekulow. It is headquartered is in Washington D.C., and it has branches in Europe (European Center for Law and Justice), in Russia (Slavic Center for Law and Justice), and two in Africa (Africa Center for Law and Justice and East African Center for Law and Justice). The ACLJ has many times successfully argued in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. They have defended the free speech rights of pro-life demonstrators, fought for the right of public school students to form religious organizations, including Bible clubs, on campus, and fought for the constitutional rights of religious groups to have fair access to public facilities, to name a few instances.[2]

Positions[edit]

The ACLJ is notably a pro-life, pro-Christian organization. They also support Israel, the U.S. Constitution, and U.S. national security.
