Morey Appointed Chief District Court Judge

Durham, North Carolina: Chief Justice Sarah Parker, of the North Carolina Supreme Court, has appointed Judge Marcia H. Morey Chief Judge of the North Carolina 14th Judicial District. She will take office on January 1, 2011, and will replace Judge Elaine M. Bushfan, whose term is ending.

Morey, 55, has served as a District Court judge for over 11 years. The former U.S. Olympic swimmer received her law degree from Northwestern School of Law in 1978. She then worked as an assistant district attorney in Durham and as the executive director of the Governor's Commission on Juvenile Crime and Justice before joining the District Court in 1999. Regarding the appointment, Chief Justice Parker stated, "I am confident that under Judge Morey's leadership all the District Court judges will continue to work diligently to ensure the fair and efficient administration of justice."[1]
