The Ohio State University[2] - often referred to as OSU or Ohio State for short - is one of the largest universities in the United States, located in Columbus, Ohio. A public university, it was founded in 1870 with a land grant over 15,655 acres and today has the largest population at a single campus of universities in the United States with an enrollment of nearly 52,000 students. The University has an endowment of over 2 billion dollars.[3]

Sports[edit]

Varsity sports teams at OSU are the called the Buckeyes.

In athletics, OSU is primarily known as a football school, having won eight recognized College Football National Championships - 1942 (under head coach Paul Brown), 1954, 1957, 1961, 1968, 1970 (under head coach Woody Hayes), 2002 (under head coach Jim Tressel), and 2014 (under head coach Urban Meyer). The football team has also won over 30 Big Ten Conference Championships, and has sent numerous players to the National Football League via the NFL Draft, with select players being enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Ohio State has also won NCAA National Titles in men's basketball (1960), baseball (1966), and wrestling (2015).
