One who engages in the business of opening and operating restaurants for profit is known as a restaurateur. Despite the fact that the word is now often used to refer to anybody who runs a restaurant, historically, it denotes a highly competent professional who is well-versed in all facets of the hospitality industry, including the restaurant business.
