John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg (October 1, 1746 – October 1, 1807) was a clergyman, soldier, and congressman from Pennsylvania.

Muhlenberg is often associated with the Black Robed Regiment and is well known for his stirring reading of Ecclesiastes 3-8 and lead role in the Virginia 8th Regiment. After reading the eighth verse, he removed his clerical robe to reveal his uniform of the Continental Army.[1]
