Apprentice

From Conservapedia

An apprentice is someone who commits to work for another in order to learn a trade, often for a considerable period of time. Historically this meant being an apprentice to a master craftsman in one of the recgognised guilds, such as goldsmith or silversmith. In more recent times it has referred to those in specialized manufacturing or service industries such as engineering, carpentry, electrics or plumbing. However, as formal training in these disciplines has declined an apprentice has become any learner or novice.

In horse racing an apprentice is a jockey with less than one year's experience and who has won fewer than 40 races.
